A fixture definition encodes a lighting device's channel layout and capabilities so QLC+ can control it intelligently

In QLC+, a fixture definition is a reusable template describing a lighting device: manufacturer, model, physical properties, and its DMX channels with capabilities. Each channel has a type (Intensity, Pan, Tilt, Gobo, Color, etc.) and value ranges mapping to named capabilities (e.g., channel 4, values 32–47 = ‘Gobo 2’). Fixture modes allow one device to expose different channel counts. Without a fixture definition, QLC+ treats the device as a generic dimmer. The community maintains a shared fixture library; missing definitions can be added with the Fixture Definition Editor.

Examples

A moving head might have a ‘Basic’ 8-channel mode and a ‘Full’ 16-channel mode. The 16-channel mode adds fine pan/tilt channels for smoother movement.

Assessment

What information must a fixture definition contain to allow QLC+ to display a color picker in the Scene editor? Which channel type must be present?

“With the Fixture Definition Editor, users can edit shared fixture information stored in a fixture library that contains the following properties for each fixture: Manufacturer (e.g. ClayPaky) Model (e.g. MAC250)”
