Getting media onto a VPT layer takes two steps: activate a source, then select it in the layer's source menu
In VPT, activating a source and routing it to a layer are separate steps. First activate the source: click its ‘on’ button in the sources section, then click the area beside it to pick a media file from the folder assigned to that source slot. Second, route it: in the layer section click ‘none’ and choose the source by name. The first eight source slots are always referred to generically as 1video, 2video, … regardless of the module type they hold (video, HAP, still, mix). The monitor button shows a thumbnail of the selected media in the source. This separation lets you prepare and preview a source without it immediately appearing on any layer.
Examples
Click ‘on’ for source 1, pick ‘loop.mp4’ from its menu, click monitor to confirm the thumbnail, then in the layer area click ‘none’ and select ‘1video’ so the clip plays on the layer.
Assessment
Describe the two steps required to get a video playing on a VPT layer. Why might a source be activated (its monitor showing media) yet nothing appears on any layer?
