Resolume clips launch on the next bar boundary when BPM sync is active

In Resolume, clips can be set to wait for the start of the next bar before they begin playing, keeping them phase-locked to the master BPM grid. This means clicking a clip thumbnail does not cause an instant cut; the output changes only when the next bar arrives. Scratching or manually repositioning a clip breaks phase alignment even though the tempo remains correct; clicking the thumbnail again re-syncs it by restarting from the beginning of the next bar. Instant launch is also possible as an alternative setting.

Examples

Click a clip thumbnail during playback — the switch happens at the next bar. Grab the blue playhead wedge to scratch; the clip now plays at the right speed but is out of phase. Click the thumbnail again to re-sync.

Assessment

Explain why a clip that has been scratched is ‘out of phase’ even though it plays at the correct tempo. How do you restore phase alignment without stopping the performance?

“these clips are set up to be synchronised to the BPM (Beats Per Minute) setting, so the clip may not start playing instantly - it will wait for the start of the next bar”
