Pseq, Prand, and Pwhite are three core Pattern generators with distinct selection behaviors
Pseq cycles through a list in order for a given number of repetitions. Prand picks items from a list at random on each event (may repeat; does not guarantee visiting all items). Pwhite generates random numbers within a continuous range — integer if both bounds are integers, float if either bound is float. All three share the (list-or-bounds, repeats) argument structure but serve different musical purposes: Pseq for ordered melodies, Prand for random melody notes from a set, Pwhite for continuous random variation. Pwhite(0,1) returns only 0 or 1; Pwhite(0,1.0) returns the full 0–1 range.
Examples
Pbind(\degree, Pseq([0,2,4,5,7],inf), \dur, 0.2).play Pbind(\degree, Prand([0,2,4,7],inf), \dur, 0.2).play Pbind(\freq, Pwhite(200,800.0), \dur, 0.3).play
Assessment
Explain the audible difference between Prand([0,2,4],inf) and Pwhite(0,4) as a \degree value in a Pbind.
