Preset locks swap a track's sound mid-pattern to a different preset from the pool
A preset lock assigns a completely different preset (sample + all parameter settings) to a specific note trig. While the track normally plays one preset, individual steps can call up any of the 128 presets loaded to the project pool. This makes one track effectively behave as multiple instruments across different steps — a kick on steps 1 and 5, a tom on step 9, a clap on step 13. Operation: in Grid Recording mode, hold a note trig and turn the LEVEL/DATA knob to scroll the pool. Presets must first be added to the pool (not just on the +Drive). Preset locks are a superset of sample locks (locking only the SAMP parameter); a preset lock replaces the entire sound, not just the sample. The key constraint: only pool presets can be locked — +Drive library presets cannot.
Examples
Load kick, snare, and hi-hat presets to the pool. Place all trigs on track 1. Hold each trig and scroll LEVEL/DATA to assign the correct instrument. Now one track hosts a full kit.
Assessment
Explain why presets must be in the pool (not just the +Drive) for preset locking. Then describe the step-by-step procedure to assign a different preset to step 9 in Grid Recording mode.
