Pattern chains sequence multiple patterns for one-shot playback without a saved song
A chain is a temporary sequence of up to 64 patterns that plays in order and loops. Creation (new method): [PTN] + [FUNC]+[YES] opens a chain creator; press trig keys to add patterns; [YES] confirms. Creation (legacy method): hold [PTN] and select first pattern with a trig key, then continue pressing trigs (keeping previous pressed) to queue patterns in order. Chains are volatile — lost when a new chain or pattern is selected, or on power-off. They can be created while the sequencer is playing. The key difference from Song mode: chains have no row-level tempo/mute/repeat settings, are not saved, and are designed for spontaneous live arrangement. MIDI program change messages can also change patterns externally, useful for hardware sequencer integration.
Examples
During a live set, create a chain: A01 → A03 → A05 → A01 (repeat). Hold [PTN], press [TRIG 1], keep it pressed and add [TRIG 3], [TRIG 5], [TRIG 1] — the chain loops A01-A03-A05-A01.
Assessment
Why do chains get lost when you power down while songs do not? What is the maximum number of patterns in a chain?
