CLiC models a live-coding collective as horizontal and adhocratic — no owners, directors, or teachers

CLiC (Colectivo de Live Coders, La Plata, Argentina) operationalises a specific organisational philosophy: no owners, no directors, no teachers. The collective is ‘adhocrático’ — tasks form and dissolve around whoever carries them forward, with no fixed roles. Participation is open to anyone willing to act on proposals. Knowledge is framed as a community construction that belongs collectively, not to any individual (‘el saber es una construcción social comunitaria, y pertenece a la comunidad, no al individuo’). This model directly opposes the guru/student dynamic common in music-tech education and the celebrity-coder dynamic sometimes present in live-coding scenes. CLiC’s Código de Convivencia is itself CC-BY-SA for re-use, making the model replicable.

Examples

‘no hay jerarquía, no hay ni habrá dueñxs, ni directorxs, ni maestrxs. Rechazamos los yo-ismos, el egocentrismo y la pedagogía pedante’ (there is no hierarchy, there are and will be no owners, directors, or teachers; we reject ego-isms, egocentrism, and pedantic pedagogy).

Assessment

Describe three concrete practices a live-coding collective could adopt to enact the CLiC horizontal model; then identify one structural challenge each practice creates.

“no hay jerarquía, no hay ni habrá dueñxs, ni directorxs, ni maestrxs. Rechazamos los yo-ismos, el egocentrismo y la pedagogía pedante”
