The Buchla Remote Enable switch connects a module to the preset manager, allowing knob settings to be stored and recalled
Blue knobs on the 200e and 200h series store their values when a preset manager (225e or 206e) issues a store command, but only for modules with Remote Enable switched on. When the LED is off, that module operates independently, ignoring preset changes — useful when you want one module to stay fixed while others morph. A key quirk: recalling a preset sets an underlying virtual value, not the physical knob position. The knob must be turned in the direction of the virtual value to catch up. Grey knobs are never stored. Switch positions are stored accurately, with LEDs reflecting true state.
Examples
Enable Remote Enable on a 261e oscillator to save tuning as part of a preset; leave it off on the 292e mixer so its fader settings persist across preset changes.
Assessment
Describe what happens to a module’s sound when you recall a preset while Remote Enable is off. Explain the knob catcher mechanism for a newly recalled preset value.
