The Buchla 225e routes MIDI note, controller, and clock messages over an internal bus that modules respond to without front-panel patch cables

The 225e MIDI decoder provides four internal MIDI buses (A-D) that 200e modules with internal bus support can receive directly without patch cables. Oscillators (259e, 261e) listen for pitch and pitch bend; the 281e function generator listens for note on/off as gate signals; the 292e responds to velocity; the 223e, 250e, 251e, and 252e respond to MIDI clock. Each module listens to the bus matching its module ID. Polyphony across four voices is possible by routing all four note channels to buses A-D. This internal bus reduces patch complexity for common MIDI-driven configurations significantly.

Examples

Enable remote on four 261e oscillators with IDs A-D; set 225e bus A-D to poly mode on MIDI channel 1 — play chords from a keyboard and four oscillators respond independently without a single CV patch cable.

Assessment

List the 200e modules that respond to the internal MIDI bus and describe what message type each listens for. Explain how to configure four-voice polyphony using only the internal bus.

“The A, B, C, and D busses are dedicated internal busses. All modules within a system share internal communication and some of these modules will respond to note, controller, and clock messages that are appropriate to their function.”
