QLC+ transmits DMX over Ethernet using Art-Net UDP with universe-numbering offset by 1

Art-Net encapsulates DMX-512 data in UDP/Ethernet, defaulting to port 6454 and broadcast. QLC+ maps internal universes to Art-Net with a −1 offset: QLC+ Universe 1 → Art-Net Universe 0. This is because Art-Net starts at 0 and commercial devices default to universe 0. Unicast mode is preferred on switched networks. Three transmission modes: Standard (sends on change or every 2s), Full (all 512 channels at 50Hz), Partial (only active channels). Pointing the output IP to the transmitting machine’s own address causes a network loop.

Examples

To send QLC+ Universe 3 to a DMXKing eDMX, configure the device to Art-Net universe 2 and QLC+ output for Universe 3.

Assessment

A DMX device responds only to Art-Net universe 5. Which QLC+ universe number should be patched? What transmission mode reduces network bandwidth?

“When transmitting multiple universes on the same interface, the packets will be sent by default with an Art-Net Universe ID equal to the QLC+ universe number minus 1.”
