Algorave is tool-agnostic: multiple live coding systems produce its music and visuals
Algorave is not tied to any single software system. The algorave.com about page lists a range of tools that break down barriers between algorithm-creators and music-makers: IXI Lang, Pure Data, Max/MSP, SuperCollider, Extempore, Fluxus, TidalCycles, Gibber, Sonic Pi, FoxDot, Cyril, and others. This variety reflects algorave’s community-based, open-source ethos and its cross-disciplinary reach. For learners, the implication is that the concept (‘live algorithmic performance with visible process’) matters more than any particular language — entry can happen via whichever tool fits best.
Examples
A set at ICLC 2019 might feature one performer using TidalCycles for audio while another uses Hydra for visuals — two different live coding systems in dialogue.
Assessment
Name three live coding tools that could be used at an algorave and describe which aspect (audio, video, or both) each handles.
