Correct overall mix tone with broad master-buss EQ, keeping narrow moves on channels
Because the ear adapts to tonality, mixes often need a final overall tone tweak; a single high-quality EQ on the master buss (placed after any master compression) usually sounds better than many low-quality channel EQs, especially for adding brightness. Keep master-buss EQ to broad, wide-bandwidth brushstrokes, which leave internal balance relationships largely intact; if you find yourself wanting narrow-band moves on the buss, fix them on individual channels instead.
Examples
Lifting above 10 kHz with one good master-buss EQ adds sheen more cleanly than many channel HF boosts; wanting a narrow master-buss cut is a sign to go back to a channel.
Assessment
Explain why master-buss EQ should be broad-band and what a desire for narrow master-buss moves indicates.
