I-F's 1997 'Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass' bridged electroclash and nu-disco by reviving melodic European electro-disco
In 1997 Dutch DJ I-F released ‘Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass,’ built on electro-funk drum patterns, 1980s FM synth stabs and vocoder vocals. The Wikipedia account credits it with single-handedly starting the electroclash movement while simultaneously bringing melodic, European-sounding electro-disco back to clubs and DJ sets. I-F followed in 1999 with the first ‘Mixed Up In The Hague’ mix, made almost entirely of Italo disco and Eurodisco, which became hugely influential. This illustrates how nu-disco is not a single unified stream but a set of intersecting revivals of late-1970s/early-1980s European electronic dance aesthetics.

Assessment
Explain how one track can be cited as the origin of two seemingly different scenes (electroclash and nu-disco). What specific sonic elements are named as making it the bridge?
