Bitwig runs a linear Arranger and a non-linear Clip Launcher together, so improvisation and fixed arrangement share one session
Bitwig Studio provides two complementary sequencer paradigms in the same session: a linear Arranger (the traditional timeline for fixed compositions) and a non-linear Clip Launcher (a grid of clips triggered in any order on demand). Both run simultaneously, and clips can be arranged, edited, and performed in any order and combination. The Clip Launcher suits live performance: audio or MIDI clips are triggered, looped, and combined freely, and can then be recorded into the Arranger as a fixed structure. ‘Next Actions’ extend Clip Launcher expressivity by defining what a clip does when it finishes — chain to another clip, loop, or randomize — letting the Clip Launcher create arrangements in its own right.
Examples
Launch a drum clip and a bassline clip in the Clip Launcher to improvise a groove, then record the best combination into the Arranger as a verse. Use Next Actions to cycle a chord progression through variations automatically.
Assessment
Explain when you would use the Clip Launcher versus the Arranger for a live set. Design a Clip Launcher layout for a 10-minute improvised performance with two sections.
