The 281e Quad Function Generator's quadrature mode chains two generators so their attack and decay phases overlap in a fixed sequence
In normal operation, each 281e generator (A, B, C, D) works independently as an ASR envelope. In quadrature mode (toggled per pair), generators A and B interlock: a pulse triggers A’s attack; when A’s attack completes, B begins its attack while A holds high; when B’s attack completes, A begins its decay while B holds high; finally B decays. This produces a complex four-stage evolving envelope from a single trigger. The sustain and cycle modes of generator A govern the overall behavior. The quadrature mode creates long, slowly morphing textures from a single trigger.
Examples
Route the quadrature pair A/B to separate inputs of the 291e morphing filter to create slow, overlapping filter sweeps driven by a single pulse from a 252e sequencer.
Assessment
Draw the voltage contour of outputs A and B over time in quadrature mode following a single trigger. Identify which generator’s mode settings control the overall cycling behavior.
