Judging bass from several room positions averages out room-mode errors
Room modes make a given bass frequency too loud at some positions and too quiet at others. Judging bass from only the sweet spot risks sitting at a node or antinode. By deliberately listening to the low end from several locations around the room (jotting reactions down helps), you average out position-dependent errors: a note that is loud everywhere probably needs reining in, whereas one loud in some spots and quiet in others is likely fine overall.
Examples
A bass guitar that seems overweight at the mix position but balanced when checked from three or four other spots is probably fine; the multi-position consensus beats any single spot.
Assessment
Explain the mechanism by which multi-position listening improves bass judgment and the frequency range it applies to.
